All of our Arizona Insurance Continuing Education courses are delivered in electronic format and can be viewed and completed on any mobile device. This includes chapter quizzes and final exams which are scored immediately upon completion. Each chapter is followed by a short chapter quiz which must be passed with a score of 70% or better in order to proceed to the next chapter. Upon completion of all chapter quizzes, you will be presented with the Final Exam which requires a passing grade of 70%. All quizzes and the Final Exam can be taken as many times as necessary until you pass. You have up to one year from the course purchase date to complete your courses.

Upon successful passage of each Final Exam your credit hours earned will be reported directly to your State regulator. The date and time of completion of your course is based on the specific time zone in which you completed the course.

Successfully completing a course will earn you a Certificate of Completion. Certificates of completion are immediately available on the My Courses page. Simply locate the completed final exam and click on the certificate icon found near the right side of the page. Please check all the information displayed on your certificate for accuracy. Inaccuracies on your certificate could represent inaccuracies in your BetterCE profile which could lead to reporting delays. If you feel your certificate is inaccurate in any way, please contact the BetterCE support team at support@betterce.info or call us at 1-888-501-7330.

General Requirements

Arizona Major Lines Licensed Insurance Agents are required to complete 48 credits of continuing education every 4 years prior to their license expiration date. Of the 48 Credits required, 6 credits must be done in the category of Ethics Training. The remaining requirements are “non-license type specific”: Agents can take courses in any topic as long as they are approved by the Arizona Department of Insurance.

Major Lines include: Life, Accident and Sickness, Property, Casualty, and Personal Lines. Producers licensed in multiple major lines (Property and Life, for example) are only required to meet the same requirements as Producers with single lines of licensing. In other words: you only have to take 48 credit hours of CE if you hold multiple lines of licensing.

Agents must complete their CE Requirements prior to their license expiration date to be eligible to renew their license. Arizona also charges an additional $.75 per credit hour “filing fee” that must be collected by the CE provider and remitted when credits are filed. It is highly recommended that agents complete their CE Requirements at least 24 hours in advance of their license expiration date to ensure that their renewal application is made available. Upon completion of all CE Requirements, licenses can be renewed online through NIPR.com, or Sircon.com. The renewal fee is $120 total, regardless of the number of major-lines licenses being renewed.

Licenses are eligible for renewal when:

  1. all CE Requirements have been completed, and
  2. when the licensee is within 90 days of their license expiration date.

Special Training Requirements

There are special training requirements for Arizona insurance agents who sell certain products. These courses count towards your CE Requirements.

Annuities

While only Arizona-resident insurance producers are subject to Arizona’s insurance continuing education requirements, both resident and non-resident life insurance producers must complete the 4 Hour training course in order for an insurer to permit the producer to transact annuities.

Long Term Care

Arizona insurance agents may not sell, solicit or negotiate a Long-Term Care policy unless the individual has completed an initial 8 Hour Long Term Care Training Course. Agents must also complete a 4 Hour ongoing training course every compliance period after the initial course is completed.

Flood Insurance

Arizona insurance agents who sell Flood Insurance must complete a 1 – time, 3 hour Flood Training Course.

CE Exemptions and Reductions

There are limited exemptions or reductions from completing CE Requirements.

  • You have been “continuously licensed” in Arizona as an insurance agent, broker or producer since January 1, 1995; and,
  • You have not held a nonresident insurance producer license in another state at any time since January 1, 1995; and,
  • You have never been the subject of an order of the director of insurance for a violation of Arizona insurance laws (ARS Title 20) that resulted in your license being suspended, revoked, denied or not renewed; or, that required you to cease and desist from unlawful activity; or, that required you to pay restitution or a civil penalty.
  • Non-Resident Agents are exempt as long as they have met the CE and Renewal Requirements of their home State where they hold their License.

Course Repeat Restrictions

Agents will not receive credit for the same CE courses taken within the same renewal period.

Carryover Credits

Any credits earned in excess of the 48 credit requirements cannot be carried over to future renewal periods.

Late Renewal and Reinstatements

There are no grace periods after a license expires. Arizona insurance agents who fail to meet their renewal requirements prior to their license expiration date will have their license expired. Agents have up to 1 year to renew their license late by completing all outstanding CE Requirements and paying a late fee of $100 ($220 total). Agents who do not renew within 1 year from their license expiration date must relicense.

Agents requesting a reinstatement should do so by submitting an initial license application through NIPR.
