Georgia Annuity Suitability Training Key Points
Georgia Licensed Agents Must Complete 4 Credit Hours of Annuity Suitability Training Prior to September 1, 2016 to Be Eligible to Sell, Solicit, or Negotiate Annuity Contracts (Eff. 3/1/2016)
A listing of the new fees that can be charged is located on the bulletin and below:
- Specific language for this new regulation can be accessed on the Georgia Department of Insurance Website, located here (item #5): GA DOI Annuity Training Requirement
Additional Points:
- This applies to you only if you Sell, Solicit, or Negotiate Annuity Contracts.
- This is a New Requirement which became effective in March 2016.
- There were no courses approved to meet this requirement prior to March 2016. So if you have not taken the course this year, it is unlikely that you are compliance with this requirement (unless taken in another state).
- If you took any Annuity Course prior to March 2016, your CE provider needs to have refiled the course and your credits in order for it to meet the requirements. You should contact your CE provider, or check your License Status to be sure.
- You can verify you have met this requirement by reviewing your Agent Status. If you have taken an approved course, it will be listed Under the Continuing Education Section, with the “Content Code” listed as “ANS”. Check your Agent Status with the GDI by clicking here: GA Agent Status
- Agents that have completed a four hour Annuity Suitability course in another state shall be deemed to satisfy this state’s requirement as long as the course material of that course is similar to this state’s requirements.
- Agents that become licensed after March 1, 2016 may not sell annuities until the Annuity Suitability course has been completed.
- Additional information can be located on the Georgia Department of Insurance Website, located here (item #5): GA DOI Annuity Training Requirement
