Pennsylvania Insurance Agent Continuing Education and License Renewal Requirements
General Requirements
Pennsylvania Major Lines Licensed Agents must take 24 Credit Hours of Approved Continuing Education every 2 years, prior to their Expiration Date.
Major Lines include:
- Life & Fixed Annuities
- Accident and Health
- Property and Allied Lines
- Casualty and Allied Lines
- Variable Life/Variable Annuity
- Personal Lines
Pennsylvania CE Requirements are “Non-License Type Specific.” Producers can take courses in any subject matter as long as:
- They are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance
Continuing Education Requirements must be completed every 2 years, on or before the last day of the licensee’s birth month.
Exemptions
- Producers who were licensed prior to 1/1/1971 and have been continuously licensed in the same Line of Authority are exempt from CE requirements.

Special Training Requirements
Property and Casualty Agents
Flood Training
Producers who sell Flood Insurance must complete a one-time, 3 Hour Continuing Education course related to NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) prior to selling.
Life and Health Agents
Annuity Training
A producer who sells, solicits or negotiates an Annuity Product must complete a one-time, 4 Hour Annuity Suitability course prior to selling.
Long Term Care
A producer may not sell, solicit or negotiate a Long-Term Care policy unless they have completed an initial 8 Hour Long Term Care Training course. These agents must also complete a 4 Hour Long Term Care Training course every compliance period following.
Additional Continuing Education Information
Carryover Credits
Excess credits of up to 24 credits may be carried forward to the next compliance period.

Renewal Guidelines
Your License is Eligible for Renewal during your “License Renewal Period”. The License Renewal Period for Pennsylvania Licensed Agents begins 60 Days prior to their Expiration Date. There are 3 Options for Renewing your license:
- Online through NIPR, located here: PA Producer Renewal (NIPR)
- Online through Vertifore (Sircon): PA Producer Renewal (Sircon)
- Renewal via Paper Application: (Mail your payment along with the properly completed renewal invoice)
