BetterCE Course Delivery Description

All of our New Mexico Insurance Continuing Education courses are delivered in electronic format and can be viewed and completed on any mobile device. This includes chapter quizzes and final exams which are scored immediately upon completion. Each chapter is followed by a short chapter quiz which must be passed with a score of 70% or better in order to proceed to the next chapter. Upon completion of all chapter quizzes, you will be presented with the Final Exam which requires a passing grade of 70%. All quizzes and the Final Exam can be taken as many times as necessary until you pass. You have up to one year from the course purchase date to complete your courses.

Upon successful passage of each Final Exam your credit hours earned will be reported directly to your State regulator. The date and time of completion of your course is based on the specific time zone in which you completed the course.

Successfully completing a course will earn you a Certificate of Completion. Certificates of completion are immediately available on the My Courses page. Simply locate the completed final exam and click on the certificate icon found near the right side of the page. Please check all the information displayed on your certificate for accuracy. Inaccuracies on your certificate could represent inaccuracies in your BetterCE profile which could lead to reporting delays. If you feel your certificate is inaccurate in any way, please contact the BetterCE support team at support@betterce.info or call us at 1-888-501-7330.

New Mexico Insurance Agent Continuing Education and License Renewal Requirements

General Requirements

New Mexico Major Lines Licensed Agents must take 24 Credit Hours of Approved Continuing Education every 2 years, prior to their Expiration Date. At least 3 of the 24 credit hours must be approved for Ethics Training. A minimum of 3 hours for each compliance period must be earned through Classroom, Classroom Equivalent, Webinar or Seminar.

Major Lines include: Life, Accident and Sickness, Property, Casualty, and Personal Lines. Agents licensed in multiple lines are only required to meet the same requirements as agents with single lines of licensing.

Insurance Producers licensed in multiple lines are only required to meet the same requirements as Producers with single lines of licensing.

New Mexico CE Requirements are “License Type Specific.” Agents must take courses in the line of authority in which they are licensed and as long as:

  1. They are approved by the New Mexico Department of Insurance
  2. At least 3 of credit hours are approved for Ethics training
  3. A minimum of 3 credit hours are completed by the method of classroom, classroom equivalent, or webinar

Continuing Education requirements must be completed every 2 years, before the last day of the licensee’s birth month.

New Mexico Insurance CE Exemptions

Producers who meet the following requirements do not need to complete Continuing Education:

    • Agents who have been licensed as an agent, solicitor, nonresident agent or broker for 25 years or more without a lapse of more than 90 days are excluded from continuing education requirements.

Non-Resident Agents are exempt as long as they have met the CE and Renewal Requirements of their home State where they hold their License.

Licensees who meet the criteria of illness, medical disability, military deployment or circumstances beyond the control of the licensee may apply for an extension of time to complete their continuing education requirement or a waiver, in whole or in part, of the continuing education requirement.

1) The superintendent shall establish the duration of the extension when it is granted.

2) If the circumstances supporting the extension continue beyond the granted extension period, the licensee may reapply for an extension.

3) The licensee must request the extension prior to the end of the compliance period for which it applies, using the form available on the OSI website.

4) Licensees called to active military service in a combat theater, may apply for an exemption from or an extension of time for meeting the continuing education requirements or extending their license renewal. The licensee must request the extension or waiver prior to the end of the compliance period, using the form available on the OSI website.
